little meals from the past

Tea loves Honey mentions how she loves the simple pairing of gim (dried salted seaweed) and white rice. I couldn't agree more! I love that she mentioned that she used to make this in college for her and her then boyfriend, now husband.

Now that I'm living in Boston on my own, I find myself making simple dishes that I enjoyed as a little kid. Gye-ran-bap is my immediate go-to. It's white rice, a fried egg, sesame oil and soy sauce all mixed up together. It's odd though, as simple as gye-ran-bap and gimbap may be, I can never make it taste as good as my mom's.
